S1 Episode #18 💛 Keep Calm and…Ask Yourself ONE Question to Keep Corona Anxiety at Bay, says anti-guru Sarah Knight [16-min listen]
“Can I control it? If the answer is no, let it go."
- Sarah Knight
* SPECIAL EPISODE * This week is Mental Health Awareness week in the UK and the theme is kindness, so we have three extra special podcast guests lined up for you, all sharing their strategies on good mental health and the impact of kindness on our wellbeing, and starting with one of our favourite authors, the ‘anti-guru’ Sarah Knight. [NB this episode contains swearing]
Sarah is the author of the ‘no fucks given guides’, a series of brilliant books including; The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*ck and her latest, F*ck No (both of which have been Shelf Help BOTM picks).
Her brilliant, sweary book series is intended as 'advice for people who hate to be told what to do’ and Sarah has been branded the ‘anti-guru’ for her sometimes controversial advice on self-care, self-respect and setting boundaries.
We also love author Sarah because she is one self-help expert practising what she preaches, having swapped her hectic New York City life for a tropical island paradise.
And if you have read any of her books or follow her work you’ll also know that she doesn’t say yes to anything she doesn’t want to do, so we really were honoured to be able to speak to her from her home in the Dominican Republic this week…
In this conversation Sarah shares advice on:
keeping existential anxiety at bay
how ‘planners’ can best deal with the current situation
why giving fewer and more mindful f@cks is better for our mental health
how politeness and honesty can go a long way in setting boundaries without losing friends
how to gracefully take - as well as deliver - a ‘no'
why intentional kindness is a balm to our mental health, especially right now
how kindness is a muscle we can build (and why we should)
ABOUT THE KEEP CALM SERIES - MAY 2020
The Keep Calm, Stay Well series is a collection of bite-sized podcasts from Shelf Help featuring our favourite authors and experts sharing their wellbeing strategies, and designed to help us all find some calm amongst the Coronoavirus chaos.
We want Shelf Help to be a resource to help you guys stay calm, positive and present in these challenging times and so are asking the experts how they are staying well mentally, physically and spiritually.
We’re turning around these interviews pretty quickly from our lo-fi barn in Norfolk BUT these conversations are pure HIGH vibes and packed with useful and inspiring information (and the tech is improving daily so we really appreciate your patience and support).
