S1 Episode #11 💛 Keep Calm and...Hack your Happy Hormones, says The Natural Life-Stylist Tony Riddle [18-min listen]

“We can’t all live in nature but that doesn’t mean we can’t live more naturally.”

- Tony Riddle

Today's guest is Tony Riddle, the Natural Life-Stylist, a coach who uses ancient tribal techniques and wisdom to help his family, clients and followers become stronger, healthier, more mindful and more connected people.

Tony, who is spending lockdown at home with his wife and four children, wants to help us live more naturally in the modern world, a challenge at the best of times but especially now…or is it?

In today’s conversation Tony recommends:

  • getting outside as early as we can (this dumps out melatonin, balances cortisol and releases serotonin)

  • using movement to get the happy hormones pumping (especially dancing or anything playful)

  • lots of awkwardly long hugs (where possible) because this creates extra serotonin

  • boosting our home environment with better air quality, lighting and lots of plants

  • living by natural ‘norms’ rather than social norms - ask yourself: how ‘organic and wild’ is my movement and sleep?

  • ditching the traditional family hierarchy and getting children involved in decision-making for the home

  • remembering that we’re a species designed to move, even when relaxing or working

  • using social media for connection not distraction, and focusing on growth-promoting content

ABOUT THE KEEP CALM SERIES - March/April 2020

The Keep Calm, Stay Well series is a collection of bite-sized podcasts from Shelf Help featuring our favourite authors and experts sharing their wellbeing strategies, and designed to help us all find some calm amongst the Coronoavirus chaos.

We want Shelf Help to be a resource to help you guys stay calm, positive and present in these challenging times and so are asking the experts how they are staying well mentally, physically and spiritually.

We’re turning around these interviews pretty quickly from our lo-fi barn in Norfolk BUT these conversations are pure HIGH vibes and packed with useful and inspiring information (and the tech is improving daily so we really appreciate your patience so far).

💛
