S1 Episode #12 💛 Keep Calm and...Get a Goal-focused Morning Practice, says trainer and health coach Phil Nayna [13-min listen]
“Spending time in the morning looking at and visualising my long-term goals means I go into the day reminding myself of the person I want to be and the things I want to achieve, and it means that my daily plans and actions are in alignment with the bigger picture .”
- Phil Nayna
Today's guest is Phil Nayna, a Personal Trainer and Health Coach as well as Founder of the corporate wellness company Absolute Mind Body.
We invited Phil onto the podcast because we’ve featured lots of yogis and mental health experts and thought it would be interesting to talk to someone with a focus on fitness BUT as well as lots of great advice on how we can get and/or stay fit without a gym, Phil also shared his empowering daily spiritual practice which really inspired us and which we think you guys will love (you can read Phil’s daily affirmations below)…
In today’s conversation Phil recommends:
Stretching early in the day before you start work, especially if you will be sitting a lot
Combatting lots of sitting and computer work with resistance bands to stretch the posterior of your body
Exercising properly at least once per day - ideally one of these will be outside - good options are running, brisk walking, online/live HIIT sessions, body weight training
Creating an easy home gym with kit like resistance bands, a foam roller, trigger ball, TRX or Olympic rings, a pull-up bar, kettlebell and/or dumbbells
Maintaining your normal routine as much as possible
Finding ways to stay productive for better mental health
A three-part meditation practice including focus on breath, affirmations and goals/visualisation
Getting an accountability buddy to help you achieve those goals

How I do the small things, is how I’ll do everything.
I am an honest person
Challenges are simply opportunities to grow

I can only control how I react
Everything is impermanent
I expect great things to happen for me
The universe is working for me
ABOUT THE KEEP CALM SERIES - March/April 2020
The Keep Calm, Stay Well series is a collection of bite-sized podcasts from Shelf Help featuring our favourite authors and experts sharing their wellbeing strategies, and designed to help us all find some calm amongst the Coronoavirus chaos.
We want Shelf Help to be a resource to help you guys stay calm, positive and present in these challenging times and so are asking the experts how they are staying well mentally, physically and spiritually.
We’re turning around these interviews pretty quickly from our lo-fi barn in Norfolk BUT these conversations are pure HIGH vibes and packed with useful and inspiring information (and the tech is improving daily so we really appreciate your patience so far).
