We’re kicking off the new podcast series with a powerful conversation with Hay House author Jessica Huie, MBE, who has been called one of Britain’s most inspiring entrepreneurs as well as one of the country’s most influential women.

Jessica’s own story from a working class teenage mum to PR business founder to coach, motivational speaker and mentor was the inspiration for her book, Purpose: Find Your Truth and Embrace Your Calling, and our original plan was for her to create some self-development exercises for the Shelf Help community around the idea of purpose in a pandemic.

But suddenly there was a more pressing global story, as the death of black man George Floyd on 25th May in the USA kickstarted an uprising of the Black Lives Matter movement that was felt around the globe.

As a woman of mixed heritage Jessica was - and of course still is - deeply affected by the situation and so we decided instead to have a conversation about the state of the world right now, how we can - and must - find purpose and light in the darkest of times, and we think this is actually the perfect interview to begin our series on Moving Forward…

*Please note the Shelf Help audio isn’t perfect as this was a last-minute Zoom interview squeezed into busy schedules. But we felt it was a very important conversation to share and luckily Jessica does most of the talking and her audio is a lot clearer

In today’s conversation Jessica shares:

  • that these intense times are an opportunity to step into our power as well as truly connect to ourselves

  • that world events can trigger our personal trauma so we need to keep checking in with ourselves

  • that finding purpose is an inside-out process: a process of returning to self and dropping old belief systems, baggage and behaviours

  • how once we have returned to ourselves we can’t help but start to do and create from a place of love

  • how she is staying centred though Morning Pages (free flow writing), meditation, reiki and getting into nature

  • that we need to be willing to disrupt our own lives to make meaningful change
