S1 Episode #9 đź’› Keep Calm and...Reduce Screen Time for Mental Health says digital wellbeing expert Tanya Goodin [14-min listen]

“Every time we are using a screen we need to think: is this helping me or harming me?” - Tanya Goodin

Today's guest is Tanya Goodin, author, digital entrepreneur, digital wellbeing evangelist, keynote speaker and host of the technology podcast, It’s Complicated.

Joining us on the back of two week’s self-isolation having caught Coronavirus during a routine hospital visit, Tanya says she’s actually feeling the best she has in a while thanks to more time to workout at home as well as enjoying the (enforced) mindfulness.

In today’s conversation London-based digital detox expert Tanya recommends:

  • to stop assuming on-screen calls are the only way we can keep connected

  • when using a screen (always) asking ourselves: is this helping or harming me?

  • using technology to connect with our communities

  • prioritising mental health by limiting news and social media intake

  • treating this as an exercise in mindfulness and enjoying each day

  • taking the time to recognise - and enjoy - the positive effects on the environment

ABOUT THE KEEP CALM SERIES - March/April 2020

The Keep Calm, Stay Well series is a collection of bite-sized podcasts from Shelf Help featuring our favourite authors and experts sharing their wellbeing strategies, and designed to help us all find some calm amongst the Coronoavirus chaos.

We want Shelf Help to be a resource to help you guys stay calm, positive and present in these challenging times and so are asking the experts how they are staying well mentally, physically and spiritually.

We’re turning around these interviews pretty quickly from our lo-fi barn in Norfolk BUT these conversations are pure HIGH vibes and packed with useful and inspiring information (and the tech is improving daily so we really appreciate your patience so far).
