S1 Episode #15 💛 Keep Calm and…Don’t Stress about Doing Less, says fitness expert Amy Lane [19-min listen]
"There isn't only one type of runner. Or only one way to do it. Or only one reason to do it. We are ALL runners."
-Amy Lane
Today's guest is Amy Lane, Digital Editor of Women's Health UK, fitness expert, author of I Can Run and host of the Well Far running podcast.
I've known Amy as an industry colleague for several years and have always loved her energy and ambition and zest for life. And in the last few years I have really admired the way she has opened up about her own mental health and ever-evolving relationship with her Self, through her Instagram, podcast and now book, I can Run. I think she is a brilliant example of someone leading by example: she does the work, on both her body and her mind, and reaps the benefits in the form of a happy, healthy and successful life that in turn inspires me and thousands of her followers, readers and listeners. And so I really hope this conversation can inspire you guys, too. Whatever your current relationship to your trainers….
In today’s conversation Amy recommends:
being ok with moving and doing less as we get used to this ‘new normal’ slower pace
moving and taking breaks from the computer throughout the day for better mental health
if energy is low swapping caffeine and/or sugary snacks for a quick walk around the block
turning running and exercise into a positive part of our lives, rather than counting calories or worrying about how we look
using Headspace or a similar simple meditation practice as a way to reconnect with ourselves
micro breaks in times of stress (cover/close your eyes and take 10 deep breaths)
cooking as a way to switch off and digi detox (she’s been using a new cookbook each week, including Jamie Oliver and Melissa Hemsley)
finding online workouts that work for you (Amy recommends Annie Clark for yoga, Hollie Grant for pilates and the FIIT app for studio lovers)

ABOUT THE KEEP CALM SERIES - March/April 2020
The Keep Calm, Stay Well series is a collection of bite-sized podcasts from Shelf Help featuring our favourite authors and experts sharing their wellbeing strategies, and designed to help us all find some calm amongst the Coronoavirus chaos.
We want Shelf Help to be a resource to help you guys stay calm, positive and present in these challenging times and so are asking the experts how they are staying well mentally, physically and spiritually.
We’re turning around these interviews pretty quickly from our lo-fi barn in Norfolk BUT these conversations are pure HIGH vibes and packed with useful and inspiring information (and the tech is improving daily so we really appreciate your patience so far).
