ABOUT THE BOOk

This bestseller is full of ideas and strategies that have worked for millions of people worldwide. World famous teacher Louise Hay offers a profound insight into the relationship between the mind and the body. Exploring the way that limiting thoughts and ideas controls and constricts us, she offers a powerful key to understanding the roots of our physical diseases and discomforts.

WHY I CHOSE THIS BOOK, by SHELF HELP FOUNDER TONI

  1. All we need is love. Self-love that is. Whatever our circumstances or challenges in life, author Louise believed that each of us creates our experiences by our thoughts and feelings, and that working on our self-esteem and self-acceptance is the key to making any kind of changes.  Louise, who died in 2017, was a founder of the entire self-help movement, learning and teaching about the mind-body connection back in the 1970s (when it was still considered totally ‘out-there’ that our emotions might affect our nervous system). Her philosophy was that all 'dis-ease' is ultimately caused by the fear that we are not enough, and that limiting self-beliefs picked up as a child manifest into physical ailments and conditions as adults, and today, many teachers, healers, doctors and scientists agree that radical self-acceptance and self-compassion are among the fastest ways to heal ourselves, mentally, emotionally and physically. Many of us have (unwittingly) thought ourselves ill/lost/stressed/unhappy, but the good news is that we can UNTHINK ourselves out of this situation too. And this book shows us how...

    2. This book had a huge impact on me at the start of my self-help - and self-acceptance - journey. And I’m not the only one. It comes up as a game-changer again and again amongst our members, of all ages. Because the themes in it - that we we give out we get back, that we choose our thoughts, that we learned how to feel about ourselves from the adults who were around us as kids, that we continue to recreate negative patterns until we can retrain our subconscious to quit them, that the power to change is in us all and is in the now - are really quite universal. Most of this book is written as though you are taking a session with Louise, and is basically a hug in book form as she kindly - but firmly - guides you through exercises and questions that will help shine a light on the thoughts and feelings that you need to explore in order to ‘heal your life’.

    3. It’s about time we celebrated 'the godmother of self-help'! Louise Hay, who was 91 when she died in 2017, was considered one of the founders of the self-help movement, and the first version of this book was published in 1976, long before people were discussing the connection between the mind and body. Revised and expanded in 1988 into the version we’re still reading now, most of the self-help practices that are pretty mainstream today were originally championed by Louise back then. She may not have invented gratitude or affirmations or inner child work, but she certainly introduced them to a new audience with her metaphysical teachings, counselling and writing, inspiring millions in her lifetime (You Can Heal Your Life has sold over 50million copies worldwide. Not bad for a self-published guide to disease of the body and soul written by a High School dropout).
