BOOK OF THE Moment: MARCH/APRIL 2021
SELF-CARE FOR TOUGH TIMES
For the next two months Self-care for Tough Times will be our featured read and we’ll be using it to create a self-care toolkit to support us during these turbulent times.
We’d love you to read along with us, and on this page you’ll find a suggested reading schedule as well as links to get the book in paperback, kindle and audible.
Each week we’ll be sharing content to help support you on your self-help and self-care journey via Instagram, Facebook, our newsletter and blog.
We’ll also be supporting your reading with a series of events, including a special self-care workshop with author Suzy Reading at the beginning of April and an online ‘retreat’ in early March.
And shelf help. Clubhouse members get access to weekly workshops as well as a ton of extra resources and our community meetups.

THREE REASONS I CHOSE THIS BOOK
by shelf help. founder Toni.
I believe that learning to care for ourselves is a fundamental part of self-help. Most of us pay attention to our physical selves and health, but real self-care is about understanding and prioritising our mental, emotional and spiritual health as well and Suzy’s gentle yet powerful evidence-based approach is a brilliant way to start doing this.
I think it’s important to acknowledge that these are tough times, for all of us. Everyone’s life has been affected by the Corona virus in some way, and if we want to move forward feeling positive and strong we need to be able to process this in a healthy way. This book has lots of actionable strategies and advice to help us do just that
It’s a beautiful and easy-to-read book filled with illustrations, lists and exercises - for the mind and body. Suzy is a huge advocate of getting out of our head and into our bodies as a way to cope better with life and I wanted to explore and share these methods - including touch, movement and breath - as ways to help us in the moment during tough times, as well as offering more long-term healing from trauma that could include anxiety, fear or burnout.
ABOUT THE BOOk
Suzy Reading offers a gentle yet powerful process for developing a self-care toolkit to call on during difficult periods, such as a relationship breakdown, illness or death in the family, financial strain, times of change and transition or when you feel completely ‘stuck’ in life and don’t know which direction to take.
Anxiety, fear, anger, uncertainty and grief are all addressed, while Suzy also explores how stress and emotional trauma are held in the body, and how these may be gently released through touch, movement and breath.
The practices included within are designed to promote healing and hope, and many are quick and easy for times when you feel exhausted or vulnerable so that you can both cope in the moment during tough times, then recover and restore after these difficult chapters of life.
